No, I am not asking for your birthday information, my next theory is one that any teen probably has experienced. Have you ever heard the statement, "Back when I was your age..." Or some variation of this line. Whether from your parents, teacher, grandparents, or someone older, it always just has to show, how much "easier" we have it these days.
For one, I do admit, there are parts of growing up easier in a sence, but how easy is it compared to them?
Sure, kids today have the benifits of school bussing, not having to work when not at school (unless they want to get into post secondary), having all this technology that helps benifit our lives, and our own cars that most kids free load off their parents. Yeah, it does sound like the sweet life. But today what does it mean to be a teenager growing up in today's society.
Today kids are given the basic idea how to live their life; go to school, get a job, maintain a good average to get into College/University, work more to get the money to get into school, get a good job after post secondary, have a nice family and then retire and die. Some where in there, we are suppose to fit in; hanging with friends and having a social life out side of school and work, hobies and sports, and other activaties, shopping for the latest fashions (if you are into that).
In today's society, teens are farely harsh one another, they are easy to judge, especially by sterotyping people with the music they like, how they dress, or who they hang with. With all this technology, it is easy to get bullied and put down, because some people perfere to hide behind a screen then face one another. Cars aren't by any means cheap (after you add up gas, and insurance, and maintance.) School is harder then ever, and trying to balance all this with a job is next to insanly impossible. In my life alone, I go to school, (which I get homework in) have to work, play hockey on a traveling team (hopefully junior next season). To balance this and sleep, well sometimes sleep isn't even existant. And it was funny when a person asked me if I had a girl friend or a life, I told her, "I just don't have time for either."
And yet those older then us say that we don't have to walk a mile to school through the blizzards and harsh sun, work in factories, never had any new things (like cloths). But that was then, this is now.
So my theory to this is, "Times are aways going to be tough, and no matter where you live, when you grew up, or who you are; we are all different, and we all live in different times, so don't say that we have it any easier."
I know there is much more I could write about this topic, and I may come back to it in the near future, but for now that is all I have to say. If you have have any questions or concerns or topics you would like to see, leave me a comment or e-mail me at johnysimps@hotmail.com.
Sincerly
Teen Theory
