Ok, to kick things off, I got a great comment on my last post, "...about how we know things for certain or what the future is idealy gonna have for us." And to comment on her post... "OMG major headache before I even start." But I shall give it a shot.
Knowing things for certain... Well this was a recent topic in my philosophy class, under epistomolgy (aka. knowing). After sitting through lectures, and a billion notes, I know now that this is going to be fun. To know something for certain is hard to understand, Richard Rorty has stated that the world is under a constant state of change (edifying) to some how better or improve all aspects. If everything is always changing, then this would lead to his other theory, that you never know when you have come to or are close to the truth. Though René Descartes believed that there was one absolute truth, and it comes from his famous line, "I think; therefore, I am." Meaning, because he can think, he exists, as that is a truth. For my self, no I don't believe we can know abosulte truths only because to know an absolute truth, you would need to know every aspect and detail of the subject. Take a pro golfer, who has played a course for so many years, but yet he will never shoot the same game every time. He is constantly getting better, he will never put the ball in the same spot; and with wind conditions, length of grass, there is no way of telling how far the ball will go or the exact direction the ball will travel. As well there is no way of telling for certain if the matrix theory is actually true or not, or even that this reality exists.
Now the future, well this I could make it easy and look at a calender, find your birthday and look in a magazine for your horoscope. But most know by now, that they are just general statments that aren't true at all, but yes they sometimes are funny or seem to be or come true, whether that was a complete fluke or just you went seeking it, well they aren't real, sorry. But to know the future, really I know its a dissapointment, but I don't have an answer. Now I will say, I don't think or even come close to believing in the 2012 theory. I know it seems like it is coming true between "global warming" and all these natural disastors at this point in history, but is it the warning signs of the end. Really there is no way of knowing with absolute certainty. But what is for sure is that for the not so distant future, people are going to live in their little nut shells her in North America, and other places in the world living their own lives out normally as we have been, and the world around us is darastically changing.
Thanks for questions, sorry that Icouldn't come up more of an answer to them though. But for any other concerns, questions, or anything you want me to talk about, comment or e-mail me at johnysimps@hotmail.com . But remember, its just a thought.
